Pastor

Pastor Trevor L. Black

Pastor Trevor L. Black brings over 25 years of dedicated ministry experience, combining theological depth, pastoral wisdom, and practical application of Scripture to serve congregations and communities. A native of Columbus, Ohio, now residing in Aldie, Virginia, Pastor Black is blessed to share life and ministry with his wife, Dr. Twana Black, and their three children: Taylor, Tylor, and Ty.

SPIRITUAL FOUNDATION AND PASTORAL MENTORSHIP

Pastor Black's journey in Christ began at age 10 with his baptism, and his early formation was profoundly shaped under the mentorship of the late Reverend Dr. Charles E. Booth of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church. Under Dr. Booth's guidance, Pastor Black developed a rigorous commitment to biblical exegesis and a profound love for studying the Scriptures. Dr. Booth instilled in him the discipline of allowing the text to speak for itself while maintaining reverence for God's Word. This foundational relationship cultivated in Pastor Black a deep passion for both the scholarly examination of Scripture and its Spirit-led application.

His calling to Gospel ministry was confirmed through licensure and ordination under Reverend Dr. A.L. Thompson of New Journey Christian Ministries, where he faithfully served as both Deacon and Minister for six years, developing his gifts for preaching and teaching. Pastor Black serves as the Senior Pastor of the historic Peace baptist church in Dunn Loring, Virginia. Before moving to Virginia Pastor Black served on the ministerial alliance board under the leadership of Bishop Howard Tillman at New Covenant Believers Church in Columbus, Ohio. These three spiritual fathers—Dr. Booth, Dr. Thompson, and Bishop Tillman—have collectively shaped Pastor Black's pastoral theology, commitment to sound doctrine, and heart for shepherding God's people.

THEOLOGICAL EDUCATION AND SCHOLARLY PURSUITS

Pastor Black pursued formal theological training at Liberty University Theological Seminary, where he deepened his understanding of biblical hermeneutics and systematic theology. His scholarly interests include Soteriology (the doctrine of salvation), the role and challenges of the African American Church in the 21st century, and the impact of Western cultural Christianity on authentic biblical faith. He is particularly passionate about examining how Faith, Politics, and religion have influenced contemporary discipleship and helping believers rediscover themselves within the scriptural narrative.

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND AND MINISTERIAL CALLING

With a degree in Criminology and Policing, and A masters in Divinity Pastor Black served honorably for over 20 years in the Ohio prison system, attaining the rank of Captain while ministering to at-risk youth. This unique intersection of corrections work and ministry has equipped him with profound insights into human brokenness, redemption, and restoration—themes that resonate throughout his preaching and teaching ministry.

PREACHING AND TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

Pastor Black has proclaimed the Gospel throughout Virginia and beyond, distinguished by his ability to explain complex biblical hermeneutics while making Scripture practical and accessible to people from all walks of life. His ministry emphasizes the crucial distinction between genuine relationship with Christ and mere religious performance, focusing on obedience to God while allowing the Holy Spirit to lead in all aspects of ministry and daily living.Central to his message is the reality expressed in John 10:10: "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life and have it abundantly." Pastor Black passionately teaches that while the enemy seeks to devastate God's people, Jesus Christ offers abundant, transformative life through faithful obedience and Spirit-led living. He is committed to teaching believers their biblical mandate to transform the atmosphere around them through dedicated love and service to the emotionally broken and spiritually wounded. As a member of the Northern Virginia Baptist Ministers Conference, Pastor Black continues to expand his influence and collaborative ministry. His favorite scripture, Isaiah 40:31, reflects his core conviction that those who wait upon the Lord find supernatural strength for life's journey.

MINISTRY VISION

Pastor Black's passion is to inspire, encourage, and uplift people by applying biblical truth in relevant, practical ways to twenty-first-century challenges. He ministers from the conviction that authentic Christian leadership flows from servanthood, living by his personal motto: "If servitude is beneath you, then leadership is beyond you!" His core belief centers on the scriptural mandate to love all neighbors regardless of appearance or origin, and to faithfully feed and restore those whom the world has wounded. Pastor Black's unique combination of theological training, pastoral mentorship under proven spiritual leaders, extensive correctional and youth ministry experience, and his gift for practical biblical exposition—all grounded in obedience to God and sensitivity to the Holy Spirit's leading—make him an excellent choice for speaking engagements, revival services, and preaching opportunities where the Word of God must be proclaimed with clarity, conviction, and compassion.
